Coaches Challenge Update!

We're working on our reading fluency 😝 I've added more stickers since I took this picture. We are going into the fourth week of using this multi-step buddy reading strategy and I'm already seeing significant increases in our daily reading and fluency assessments.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Adapted an idea from online and invited our 1st grade buddies (I'm so glad my mom teaches 1st) into our classroom to work collaboratively with my 2nd graders! The students collectively  came up with the name for this project. With very little guidance and direction we reviewed place value and talked about what robots might need to be a robot. I gave them glue sticks, color coded base ten models, a bag of googly eyes, black construction paper and a template for them to write out the expanded form. They did so well AND they look great! #iteachtoo#sodoesmymom 😝

Lovebots!

The kids voted on the names of their base ten robots. Each student was given 3 colored sheets of paper; 1 red flat (100), 1 purple sheet of rods (10), and 1 sheet of pink units (1). We discussed what every robot needs and even created a list of optional parts. The students were given no instructions on how to construct...only the tools! This project was especially special because my second grade class became the teachers for my mom's first grade class. At the end they had to write out their own expanded for equations. What do you think?

Can you spot the pattern?

This has probably been one of my favorite activities all year! All iterations! We went around the class and created this list. There was only one rule, and that was that you could not create the alliteration for your own name. So many laughs with this one.

Synonym Rolls

These turned out to be so cute! I gave each student a sticky note and had them brainstorm and come up with a list of four synonyms. Some of them got really creative, which turned into a lesson on finding what words really mean from the dictionary lol

Happy 100th Day!

Finally getting our 100 year old writing up!  My kids LOVED their pictures and their stories are hilarious! We've really been focusing in on "2nd grade writing". Having a fun theme and interesting topic really helps to add some length to what may normally be just a 4 word story.
